這件標本的顏色分兩層登場。晶簇頂部是淡淡的冰川藍，立方體疊著立方體，稜邊層層退階，宛如俯瞰一座城市，通透得能讓內部的晶體隱隱透出外層晶面。往下，藍色沉澱為煙燻般的薰衣草色，愈近底部愈深，左下角還留有一小塊黃褐色的圍岩。
這樣的色帶就是晶洞的日記。螢石的色調來自微量元素以及 CaF2 晶格中的缺陷，兩者都會隨成礦流體而改變；每個生長階段都鎖住了當時主導的色調，這也是為什麼藍與薰衣草色是沿著一條界線相接，而非漸融。湖南是中國藍色螢石最具代表性的產地。請握住整體而非稜角——莫氏硬度 4、八面體方向完全解理，立方體的稜邊總是最先受損的地方。
