一枚陡峭的琥珀色晶體主宰了全局：這是一枚色如濃茶的方解石偏三角面體，半透明到光線會在其內部積聚，晶面平滑，僅蒙著一層淡淡的氧化鐵粉塵。沿著左側斜坡向上，攀著一列鮭粉色的小方解石，每一枚都是僅數毫米大的短胖階梯狀晶體，後方則由乳白色的方解石填補。
方解石的顏色幾乎總是微量元素的故事：只需極少量的鐵與錳，就足以讓它從清澈如水轉為蜜色、琥珀色或粉紅色，而這兩種色調都在這一件上同時呈現。方解石很軟，莫氏硬度 3，具三組完全解理，即使是弱酸也能將它溶解，因此請讓家用清潔劑與醋遠離它。
