直立擺放，它整個看起來就像一片葉子。這件安徽方解石是一枚稻黃色的薄板，略高於 6 cm，向上收成尖端，內部貫穿著自基部向頂端分岔的羽狀脈絡。邊緣因生長層堆疊而呈細密鋸齒，下方中央有一枚小巧的透明晶體突出，像莖上的花苞。逆光時，整片薄板轉為溫暖的蜜色。
方解石以平行生長達成這樣的形態：薄薄的 CaCO3 板面對面堆疊，並略微向外扇開，因此輪廓一階一階地長出，而內部的界線則以淡色的羽狀紋理保留下來。請把它當作脆弱的物件對待——摩氏硬度 3、三個方向完全解理，這樣纖薄的薄板在粗心的握持下不只是刮傷，而是直接折斷。
標本高 6.1 cm，底面 2.3 × 2.0 cm，重 31 g。它以白色黏土膠直立固定在圖中所示的透明壓克力座上。照片記錄的是這一枚薄板，而非示意樣品。
