關於此標本
蜜黃色的方解石晶頭騎在一根覆滿無色小晶體的細柱上：名副其實的權杖，冠部遠比承載它的柱身寬闊。晶頭是一顆被十來個晶面切割的單晶，有些晶面亮如鏡面，有些則呈緞面，光線穿透而出時，是淡茶的顏色。淺色晶簇與黃色相接之處轉折突兀，彷彿兩種礦物輪流上場。
權杖狀生長發生在晶體停止生長、環境條件轉變、新一代晶體在舊的晶尖上成核並向外膨大而非向上延伸之時。這在方解石中並不常見，而且總是略帶險象——接合處就是弱點，加上摩氏硬度 3 與菱面體解理，這件標本值得溫柔對待。湖北大冶正是這種溫暖鐵染黃色的產地。
高 5.1 cm，底面 3.0 × 2.5 cm，重 40 g，以黏土膠固定於透明壓克力方塊上，讓晶頭保持直立。這就是商品照片中的那一顆晶體，連同展示座。
