關於此標本
這件瑤崗仙標本的每一個面都由瓷白色的方解石刃狀晶體構成，層層堆疊、扇形展開，每一層都自下一層騰起。每片晶刃都帶有細密的平行條紋，使表面呈現絲綢般、近乎蠟質的光澤而非玻璃光；層次堆得最厚之處，白色還微微轉暖成奶油色。頂端附近一小點黑色包裹體，是唯一的中斷。
方解石（CaCO3）是礦物學中的變形者——已記錄的晶體習性多達數百種——而瑤崗仙的鎢礦脈就產出了其中相當一部分。這類層狀生長來自緩慢而低溫的碳酸鹽流體，而非急促的流動。莫氏硬度 3、三個方向完全解理，晶刃極易留痕，因此上架時請讓它遠離較硬的鄰居。
