這塊小板上同時出現兩種方解石晶習。左側與中央，乳白色晶體以鈍拙的塊狀堆疊起來，晶面帶著柔和的階梯起伏；右側則是一叢薄板狀晶體平行密排而成的扇形，像一本合起的書的書頁。深灰色粒狀母岩自縫隙間透出，白色部位在斜光掠過之處，泛起淡淡的暖色紅暈。
方解石是 CaCO3，也是礦物學裡最擅長變換形貌的角色之一：同樣的化學成分，隨溫度與流體性質不同，可長成塊狀、板狀、複三方偏三角面體與菱面體，這也是同一座礦山能從相鄰晶洞送出數種晶習的原因。它同樣柔軟——莫氏硬度 3，三個方向解理完全。請托住底部搬動，讓它遠離醋或任何酸性蒸氣，也絕不要靠近超音波清洗機。
