這件骷髏由一整塊乳白色螢石雕成，石頭本身的地質紋理就寫在它的臉上。一道顆粒狀晶殼自眉骨延伸過顴骨，一側太陽穴染上一抹淡綠，顱骨後方則以平面層層退階——雕工順著石性走，而不是與之對抗。眼窩挖得極深，牙齒刻成整齊的格狀。
螢石的化學式為 CaF2，屬等軸晶系，硬度僅莫氏 4；但對雕刻者而言，真正的難處在於它四個方向的完全解理：一刀失手，就可能沿著藏在石塊內部的解理面崩下一片。骷髏表面那些平坦的刻面，正是順著這些潛藏的面而走，這也是為什麼這件作品應輕放，而不宜碰撞層架。
尺寸為 8.9 × 6.4 × 7.6 cm，重 800 g——是需要雙手捧持的實心物件，拍攝時置於深色反光檯面上，未附底座。本頁所有照片都是這顆骷髏本身；沒有兩件雕件會完全相同。
