將它舉向窗前，幽靈便會現身：每一顆淡紫色立方體之內都端坐著一個色調更深的紫羅蘭色方塊，那是一枚在生長中途被凍結、隨後被更清透的螢石掩埋的較小晶體。整組標本由十餘顆立方體以階梯方式堆疊而成，稜線鋒利，晶面平整而具玻璃光澤，每一層止步於前一層之處都留下一道淺淺的階地。
幻影記錄的是造就晶體的那股水發生的一次改變——一段色心更為豐富的脈動，隨後又回到近乎無色的生長。湖南郴州的瑤崗仙產出各種紫色調的此類晶體，而正是像這樣色淺、透明度更高的材料，才真正展現出內部的幾何結構，而非將它藏起。螢石是 CaF2，莫氏硬度 4，在四個八面體方向上皆具完全解理：比起灰塵，它更在意碰撞與驟然的溫度變化。
體積小巧，4.1 × 3.6 × 2.8 cm，重 51 g，無需底座即可穩穩立住。本頁的每一張照片拍攝的都是這一組晶體，絕不以他件替代。
