淡紫丁香色的立方體以階梯狀順著這件標本向上攀升，而每一枚都像被墨線描過：一道細緻的深紫色帶沿著每一條稜、每一個角走過，內部卻幾乎清澈如水。效果十分建築感，彷彿一疊玻璃盒被細筆勾出了輪廓。最大的立方體位於肩部，頂面把光線整片平整地反射回來。
螢石是 CaF2，屬等軸晶系，顏色來自晶格中的缺陷與微量元素置換，而非任何單一的呈色元素。這些色心會聚集在晶體生長最快的部位——沿著稜與角——這正是這類色帶分區能如此精確地複製立方體輪廓的原因。請把它當作真正的軟礦物看待：莫氏硬度 4，沿四個八面體方向解理完全，角隅一旦碰撞，損傷就是真實而且永久的。
