關於此標本
酒紅色的石榴石散落在斷面的奶白色長石上——這就是全部的構圖，而且效果很好。石榴石少有大過米粒的，但每一顆都是稜角分明的菱形十二面體，晶面如玻璃，最大的一顆中心暗到近乎黑色。它們之間立著塊狀的長石晶體與數根煙水晶晶尖，其中一根清澈到可以直接看穿到母岩。
石榴石是一個族群，而非單一礦物，數個種共用同一種結構，只是把內部的金屬互相替換，這正是石榴石顏色能從這種深酒紅一路橫跨橙色到綠色的原因。這裡與它為伴的組合是花崗岩晶洞的典型：長石、石英，以及比兩者都更耐久的石榴石。莫氏硬度 6.5 至 7.5，是這件標本上最硬的東西，而整件標本也結實到可以自在拿取。
