關於此標本
一串鮭魚粉色的菱錳礦菱面體如踏腳石般之字形橫過這片小標本，每一枚晶體都覆著糖霜般的白色次生晶層，把稜角磨得圓潤。只有左上方最大的那一枚仍夠清透，能透出底下深西瓜紅的核心；其餘的則在所棲息的灰色石英晶簇襯托下呈現淡玫瑰色。
菱錳礦是碳酸錳 MnCO3，粉色直接來自結構中的錳，而不是任何微量雜質。它質地柔軟，莫氏硬度 3.5 至 4，三個方向皆有完全解理，因此掉落的菱面體會沿著平坦的解理面裂開，而不是崩出缺口。沿著右側邊緣看去，一枚紫色的螢石晶體長進了晶簇之中，附近有黃銅色的硫化物細點，另一角則由一層深色的礦物殼佔據。
標本 4.8 × 1.3 × 3.6 cm，重 35 g，薄得像一枚切片，直立支撐在透明壓克力座上。您在照片中所見的，就是離架寄出的那一件。
