淡紫色的立方體在這件小型標本上彼此嵌合，一層細緻的灰綠色雲母質粉塵落在它們的上方晶面，把所經之處的每一道階梯與稜邊都描了出來。透過淺色的外層生長望進去，顏色更深的紫色晶心浮現為懸在內部的方形陰影——那是更早、顏色更濃的晶體，螢石後來繞著它繼續長大。
那些內部的方形就是幻影。生長中的一次停頓在晶體上留下一層帶色的外皮，隨後新生的螢石繼續向外堆積，把舊的輪廓原地封存。由於螢石屬等軸晶系，幻影會分毫不差地重複立方體的形狀，連角都對得上。5 g 的分量，使它適合收進小盒子配放大鏡欣賞，而不是擺上架子。
