先別看顏色，真正抓住目光的是質感：一層後期生成的深紫羅蘭色微立方體結殼，多數不足一毫米，如粉塵般覆蓋在更早期、色澤更淡的一代螢石那些寬闊的階梯狀晶面上。結殼較薄之處，底下的晶體以煙燻紫水晶般的色調透出；而在稜脊上結殼加厚的地方，紫色深沉得近乎全黑。一側還有幾處乳白色斑塊打斷了這層包覆。
一件標本上並存著兩代晶體：大塊狀的立方體最先形成，在冷卻的富氟溶液中緩慢生長；細密的結殼則來得更晚也更快，同時在每一個可用的晶面上成核。從頭到尾成分都是 CaF2——只有晶體的大小記錄下晶洞的環境轉變得多麼劇烈。莫氏硬度 4、四個方向完全解理，而微晶結殼是其中最脆弱的部分：除塵請用軟毛刷，絕不要用布。
尺寸 6.6 × 3.8 × 4.3 cm，重 120 g，以平坦的底面安放，無需底座。這些照片拍攝的正是這一件標本。
