迎向窗光，這枚晶體便成了建築：片狀、楔狀與細密的內部縫隙層層堆疊，貫穿一個基部乳白、向上逐漸澄澈的晶體，直到寬闊的晶尖幾乎純淨如玻璃。奶油色的粒狀晶簇仍緊附左側翼，並在右下方再度以楔形出現；側面另有一枚較小的晶錐擠入，那是兩枚晶體相互頂著生長之處。
骸晶石英之名正來自這種層疊、階梯般的生長——晶體先行長成，隨流體變化被部分再溶蝕，而後又在自己被蝕刻的晶面上重新長起。內部那些淡色的紗幕，就是這些中斷所留下的癒合縫。石英為 SiO2，莫氏硬度 7，足以無視灰塵與把玩；本標本唯一脆弱之處，是邊緣那層粉質的晶簇薄殼。
