鏽上凝霜：髮絲般纖細的石膏針晶自深巧克力褐色的結殼上叢生而出，聚成兩簇密實的絨球，其間另有一片較鬆散的針叢漫溢。針晶受光處無色而具玻璃光澤，平貼母岩之處則泛出溫暖的琥珀色調，整個表面只需輕輕一傾便閃爍生輝。
石膏（CaSO4·2H2O）是收藏者所能擁有的最軟礦物之一——莫氏硬度 2，指甲即可留痕——而這樣的針狀晶叢是它最脆弱的表現形式。它們生長於開放的孔洞中，細如水絲的晶體自共同的起點放射，直到觸及岩壁。請保持乾燥，石膏微溶於水；除塵請以吹氣或極軟的毛刷，切勿用布擦拭，那會一次折斷數十根針晶。
標本尺寸 6.6 × 2.5 × 3.8 cm，重 50 g。以手持方式拍攝、未經裝座，與寄達時的樣貌完全一致。
