關於此標本
一團柔和的橄欖綠色包裹物如雲霧般封存在主方解石晶體內部，宛如鎮紙裡凝住的天氣；這枚塊狀晶體的晶稜通透如玻璃，通體則透出淡淡的稻草色。第二枚較小的晶體斜生於其後，柱面上帶有細密的條紋。兩者共同坐落在一層乳白色晶簇之上，細小明亮的晶體在母岩上鋪展開來。
它的晶形值得正確稱呼。方解石屬三方晶系，這裡乍看像立方體的形態其實是陡菱面體，各晶面相交的角度略偏離九十度——對於學著用肉眼區分方解石與螢石的人來說，這個「差一點」正是關鍵線索。方解石莫氏硬度僅 3，又有三組完全解理，若任其與鄰近標本碰撞滾動，極易崩角，因此請給它一個襯墊的標本盒或加軟墊的層架。
產地為湖北黃石大冶。標本尺寸 5.1 × 4.3 × 3.6 cm，重 65 g，完全依照圖示出貨，不含底座。本頁照片皆拍攝自這一組晶體，別無其他。
