關於此標本
一顆冰清透明的立方體主宰了這件標本的左半部，透明得足以讓其後褐色母岩的紋理直接讀出，內部則因生長一度轉為渾濁而蒙上羽狀的白色薄紗。階梯狀的較小立方體向右淺淺排開，其中數顆在深處藏著一個紫羅蘭色方塊。夾在兩者之間的是一團黃鐵礦，大半已暗化為槍鐵色，只有一個三角形晶面仍透出黃銅色澤。
這樣的顏色分層——水清透明的外層之下藏著紫羅蘭色晶核——是瑤崗仙的招牌，也正因如此，該礦的螢石值得在光線下緩緩轉動，而不是只看一眼。CaF2 莫氏硬度僅 4，且在四個方向上具完全解理；旁側的黃鐵礦雖然更硬，卻是兩者之中化學性質更為嬌弱的一方，因此請保持標本乾燥，避免收在潮濕的櫃中。
