一列淡丁香紫的螢石立方體沿著這塊板狀標本的上緣與右緣延伸，每顆晶體都在近乎無色的外層玻璃中懸著一枚更深的紫色晶核。幻影呈方形且輪廓分明，記錄下晶體早期較小時的模樣。其下的母岩鋪滿褐黃色的白雲母薄片——數以千計的小雲母書，回饋出黯淡的香檳色微光。
幻影生成於生長暫停之際。一層雜質薄膜沉降在晶面上，或是流體的化學性質改變，待螢石重新生長時便直接覆蓋其上，將舊有的輪廓封存在內。湖南大量供應這種淡薰衣草紫配雲母的組合，但幻影分帶能像本件這般清晰可讀者並不多見。螢石的莫氏硬度為 4，並具四組完全解理。
這塊板狀標本尺寸為 8.6 × 2.0 × 5.6 cm，重 210 g，厚度夠薄，可倚靠層架背板或平放於抽屜之中，不附底座。您所看到的照片正是這塊標本本身。
