一枚琥珀煙色的水晶晶體在此明顯高出群體，晶面呈玻璃光澤並帶有淺淺的階梯狀生長紋，下方晶床中還有較小的煙水晶閃爍其間。周圍是塊狀的乳白色白雲石晶體，而嵌落在這片淺色底子上的，是幾顆如橙色果醬般渾圓的石榴石——其中兩顆大得足以吸住視線，其餘母岩上則零星散布著橘色顆粒。底面是一層灰粉色的岩石，恰好襯托出上方的暖色調。
煙水晶的顏色並非外加。天然輻射作用於 SiO2 晶格中的微量鋁，使原本透明的石英轉為茶色與琥珀色。這樣的組合會影響保養方式，因為此處的礦種韌性並不相同：石英摩氏硬度 7，石榴石也相去不遠，但白雲石只有 3.5 至 4，且遇酸會起反應——請讓家用清潔劑遠離，並以乾燥的軟毛刷輕拂灰塵。
