兩顆黃銅色的黃銅礦球狀集合體騎在白色的石英殼上，各由數十顆互相咬合的晶體密實堆成一個圓頭，四周還有較小的晶體像鬆散的星座般散布過整塊標本。底下的石英呈糖粒狀而明亮，在晶簇長得最細密之處轉為淡藍白色。金屬部位在直射光下讀作暖金色，在陰影中則轉為橄欖青銅色。
江西的銅礦床產出的黃銅礦正是這種圓潤的集合體晶習，許多晶體一同成核，而非由一顆乾淨的單晶獨佔場面。作為硫化物，它偏軟，莫氏硬度 3.5–4，並會緩慢氧化，轉向藍色與紫色調；這種變化是自然的，而乾燥存放、不讓裸手碰觸金屬表面，才能讓金色維持得最久。
這是一塊寬闊的標本，14.0 × 8.9 × 5.8 cm，675 g，重得足以不靠支撐平穩安坐。此處所有影像都取自這塊標本，售出的也正是照片中的這一件。
