關於此標本
片狀重晶石以層層交疊的扇形與玫瑰花結在這件摩洛哥標本上展開，外緣潔白，向中央則被染上蜜色與鏽色。覆於其上的是一層釩鉛礦的撒點：數百顆紅寶石紅至血褐色的六方小晶體，每一顆都以堅硬而近乎金屬的閃光攫住光線。黑色的錳氧化物斑點為這些淺色的片晶點上句讀。
釩鉛礦，Pb5(VO4)3Cl，屬於鉛礦床氧化的上部層位，在那裡自圍岩淋濾出的釩與溶液中的鉛相遇；它結晶於六方晶系，其重量與金剛光澤般的閃爍都歸功於鉛。這裡的兩種礦物都很軟，硬度約在莫氏 3 左右，而重晶石片晶的尖端脆弱，因此這一件適合放在層架上，而不是口袋裡。
