關於此標本
一枚細長的錫石片狀晶體斜臥在這件瑤崗仙晶簇中最大石英晶體的晶面上，黑色映著清澈如水的透明；其後的縫隙裡還卡著另一枚更厚重的片晶。石英晶柱無色而具玻璃光澤，其中數支帶有完整晶頭、肩並肩地挺立，左緣低處則坐著一顆黃銅色的黃鐵礦晶體。
錫石（SnO2）是最主要的錫礦石，而這樣的片狀晶體——近乎全黑、金剛光澤、以其體積而言重得出乎意料——正是它在湖南南部石英脈中的產狀。這裡的石英繞過並越過了它們，把其中一枚片晶平封在一個晶柱面上。石英莫氏硬度 7，錫石 6 至 7，因此這件標本相當耐取放；上頭最軟的是那顆小黃鐵礦，一經摩擦便最先失去光澤。
5.6 × 5.1 × 5.1 cm、90 g，結構緊湊，在燈下幾乎任何角度都耐看。照片為手持拍攝，而照片中的標本即為出售的這一件。
