關於此標本
彷彿有人在這顆立方體的晶面上畫了一塊電路板。主晶體呈深琥珀金，通透如寶石，上三分之一近乎透明，正面則走著一張細密的直角線網——方中有方，階梯自行折返，像用尺規排出來的。三顆較小的金色立方體聚在它後方，附於帶粉的奶油色母岩上，母岩上散著暗綠色斑點。
那些階梯是生長階步——某些生長層在橫越晶面的途中停了下來，把邊緣留成高不足一毫米的台地。它們把光以與周圍晶面不同的角度送回，於是圖案隨著晶體轉動時而炸開、時而消失。北京在螢石標本上是個不尋常的產地標籤。此礦種莫氏硬度 4，具完全的八面體解理，取拿時請托著母岩，別捏那顆立方體。
標本為 5.1 × 3.8 × 3.8 cm，75 g。它以圖中的透明壓克力方座送達，帶紋的晶面朝前——而這幾張畫面中的晶體，就是將被打包的那一顆。
