關於此標本
石英花簇像一朵朵白色小星芒，在這件晶簇的頂部次第綻開，一叢又一叢通透而尖銳的晶體。基座則完全是另一回事：深色閃鋅礦，斷面呈鋼亮光澤，鑲嵌著黃銅色的硫化物晶體，以及幾處淺褐色碳酸鹽斑塊。
花朵形態屬於石英而非閃鋅礦——那是一組組放射狀的細長柱晶，在硫化物表面著床後同時朝四面八方向外生長。閃鋅礦（ZnS）提供了讓這種形態被看見的對比：光澤由樹脂光澤到近乎金剛光澤，摩氏硬度 3.5 至 4，並具六個方向的完全解理，因此比硬度 7 的石英脆弱得多。請由下方托住標本，切勿抓握那些晶叢。
