關於此標本
這件內蒙古標本上的主晶體是海玻璃般的顏色，也同樣啞光：一塊柔和半透明的藍綠色晶塊，約莫核桃大小，上緣裂成一級級平坦的層台，記錄著生長如何一層層重新開始。第二顆顏色更淺的立方體坐在它前方，頂部同樣呈階梯狀，第三顆則有一半埋在右側。三顆都安放在一片點綴著赭色與深色斑點的淺灰色母岩上。
這樣的霧面晶面通常是晶體生命的最後一章——一層後期覆生的微晶散射光線而非反射光線，這正是為什麼綠色讀起來深邃如天鵝絨，而不是玻璃般透亮。內蒙古多年來持續產出這種色調內斂、帶層台的螢石，它在燈下比透明材料更能穩住顏色。螢石的莫氏硬度僅有 4，因此在層架上請讓它遠離更硬的礦物。
