關於此標本
越過表面往裡看，晶體就打開了。這件瑤崗仙集合的外部呈霜面，並撲著一層橄欖綠——細緻的雲母質薄衣附在立方體晶面上；底下則有深紫色的核心懸在近乎無色的螢石之中，方形的輪廓與外緣平行——那就是幻影，是晶體早年所保有的形狀。最大的立方體上橫過階梯狀的生長階，左下方一處凹穴裡則有乳白色的刃狀晶片與幾根細針。
幻影的形成，是生長停頓得夠久，讓另一種礦物的薄膜、或是微量化學的變化被封存下來，再被後來的螢石埋住。它們完全不是事後添加的，而是一次中斷的紀錄。螢石莫氏硬度 4，具完全的八面體解理，因此這是一件陳列用而非把玩用的標本——請從下方托住。
4.8 × 3.8 × 3.0 cm、65 g，立於圖中的透明壓克力方座上。拍攝的標本與寄出的標本是同一件。
