橄欖金色的方解石花苞擠滿了這片福建標本的層階，數以十計，每一枚都是若干小晶體聚生成的圓頭狀結核，而非單一的尖銳晶尖。它們坐落在灰奶色母岩上，母岩本身覆著一層細緻的糖霜狀晶簇，並被低矮的刃狀稜脊切開，使黃色在清冷粉白的底色上顯得格外溫暖。
方解石（CaCO3）幾乎能長成它喜歡的任何形狀，此處的生長緩慢而一再重新成核，將小菱面體層層堆疊成瘤狀集合體，而非延展出幾枚大晶體。柔和的蜜色來自碳酸鹽中的微量鐵，在花苞聚集最密處顏色更深。莫氏硬度 3 加上三個方向的完全解理，使它適合陳列於櫃中，而非時常上手把玩。
