蜜金色的螢石通透得能透看到另一側，前方晶面上覆著一片霧化的淡紫丁香色板面，蝕刻在那裡向晶體啃出了方形的階梯。台階以直角反覆相套，一個方形嵌在另一個方形之內，靠近頂端的一處小凹陷像鑰匙孔般張開。其後偏右，第二枚較小的立方體斜倚入畫，琥珀色調也朝那一側加深。
北京一帶的螢石偏向這種溫暖的金色，而非湖南的紫色系；而那些階梯狀的表面是溶蝕而非損傷——晶體生長結束之後，晚期流體才在它身上作用，並循著立方體的方向前進。螢石（CaF2）莫氏硬度 4，八面體解理完全，因此放置時若用力過猛，稜邊便會崩缺。有些螢石會回應紫外光；本件請不要預設如此。
