Über diese Stufe
Zwei Kupferkarbonate, zwei Temperamente, auf einem aufrechten Block: samtgrüner Malachit in gerundeten, traubigen Polstern und eine ultramarinblaue Azuritkruste, die sich an der rechten Seite in dichten, zuckrigen Rosetten auftürmt, so gesättigt, dass sie von hinten beleuchtet wirken. Das Grün steigt oben zu einer kleinen Spitze auf; das Blau folgt ihm wie eine Flutmarke und sammelt sich erneut auf dem unteren Absatz, wo einige dunklere graubraune Partien des Muttergesteins durchscheinen.
Azurit, Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2, und Malachit, Cu2CO3(OH)2, unterscheiden sich um kaum mehr als eine Karbonatgruppe und ein Wassermolekül, und in feuchter Luft geht Azurit langsam in Malachit über. Stufen wie diese sind mitten in dieser Umwandlung erfasst, daher der Zweifarbeneffekt. Beide sind weich, etwa Mohs 3,5 bis 4, und beide vertragen weder Säuren noch Nassreinigung – nur trocken abstauben.
Der Block misst 7,7 × 4,4 × 5,2 cm und wiegt 147 g; er ruht selbsttragend auf seiner flachen Unterseite, ein Sockel ist nicht nötig. Die Aufnahmen zeigen ausschließlich diese Stufe.
