Über diese Stufe
Auf einer kleinen Stufe aus Guizhou treffen zwei Texturen aufeinander. Aus der Matrix erhebt sich eine knubbelige weiße Gipssäule, deren Oberfläche aus einer Masse gerundeter Lappen besteht – daher der Beiname Popcorn –, mit lohbrauner Eisenverfärbung in den Vertiefungen dazwischen. Nach links greift etwas völlig anderes hinaus: eine wasserklare Gipstafel, glasglänzend und flachseitig, die fast waagerecht am braunen Nebengestein liegt.
Gips (CaSO4·2H2O) ist der Bezugspunkt für Mohs 2 – ein Fingernagel hinterlässt bereits eine Spur – und er ist schwach löslich. Waschen ist deshalb keine gute Idee, eine warme Fensterbank eine noch schlechtere: Wärme treibt das Kristallwasser aus und lässt klare Partien kreidig werden. Fassen Sie das Stück an der Matrix und halten Sie es aus der direkten Sonne.
Das Stück misst 4,8 × 2,3 × 4,1 cm und wiegt lediglich 20 g. Es kommt ohne Sockel, auf den Bildern zum Größenvergleich auf Fingerspitzen balanciert – und abgelichtet wurde genau das Exemplar, das verschickt wird.
