Ein breiter, klingenartiger Kristall steht aufrecht im Zentrum dieser Stufe aus der Inneren Mongolei, milchig und im Durchlicht schwach grünlich; aus seiner unteren Hälfte fächert ein Sprühbild schlanker weißer Prismen nach außen wie eine fallen gelassene Handvoll Nadeln. Winzige schwarze Körnchen liegen verstreut auf nahezu jeder Fläche, Dutzende davon, und zur Basis hin dunkelt das Stück in eine raue, rostorange gefärbte Matrix ab.
Quarz und Calcit gemeinsam sind die Signatur der karbonatgebundenen Hohlräume dieser Region, und die Paarung lohnt sich im Schrank: In einer einzigen Handstufe lassen sich ein Mineral der Härte Mohs 7 und eines der Härte Mohs 3 unmittelbar vergleichen. Richten Sie sich nach dem weicheren Partner – weicher Pinsel, niemals Säure, niemals Ultraschallbad – und stützen Sie das Stück beim Bewegen von unten, denn schlanke Prismen brechen leicht.
