Über diese Stufe
Blockige Calcit-Kristalle schieben sich über diese Platte aus Daye wie Eisschollen, die an einem Flussufer aufgetürmt sind, und jeder endet nicht in einer Spitze, sondern in einer scharfen, meißelförmigen Endfläche. Die Farbe wechselt beim Drehen: links mattes Milchweiß, dann rauchig und fast wasserklar durch den größten Kristall, in dem innere Wachstumslinien als feine parallele Striche sichtbar werden. Am unteren Rand läuft eine Naht aus honigorangen Kristallen und dunklen Körnern, die die ganze Unterseite erwärmt.
Calcit (CaCO3) ist mit Mohshärte 3 weich und spaltet nach drei Richtungen glatt; er gehört daher aufs Regal und nicht in die Tasche. Das Erzfeld von Daye in Hubei ist ein Skarnsystem, und seine Calcite führen genug Spuren von Mangan, dass eine rosa bis rote Reaktion unter kurzwelligem Ultraviolett häufig vorkommt – prüfen Sie sie besser mit einer eigenen Lampe, bevor Sie jemandem eine Vorführung versprechen.
Die Platte misst 14,0 × 6,4 × 5,1 cm und wiegt 445 g, schwer genug, um ohne Hilfe auf einem Regal zu stehen. Ein Sockel wird nicht mitgeliefert; sämtliche Fotos zeigen ausschließlich diese eine Platte.
