Quince o más puntas rechonchas de cuarzo irradian aquí hacia fuera desde una raíz común, y se abren lo bastante como para que el abanico sea más ancho que alto. Ninguna es vítrea: cada cara prismática y cada terminación llevan una drusa arenosa fina de cristales mucho más tardíos y pequeños, teñida de oliva donde engrosa cerca de la base y aclarándose hasta casi el blanco en las puntas. Una costra granular caqui remata el frente, y los cristales de debajo se ven lechosos y levemente verdosos a través del recubrimiento.
Esa segunda piel es lo esencial de la pieza. Registra un pulso posterior de fluido cargado de sílice que llegó después de que los cristales principales dejaran de crecer y que nucleó en miles de puntos a la vez en lugar de añadirse limpiamente a las caras existentes. El material local se llama cuarzo tornillo por el crecimiento escalonado y retorcido que adoptan sus prismas; aquí el efecto es textural más que vítreo, y pide luz rasante y no un foco. Dureza 7 en la escala de Mohs en todo el conjunto, recubrimiento incluido.
El abanico mide 5,6 × 4,3 × 4,1 cm y pesa 60 g. El abanico de las imágenes es el abanico que recibirá, cubo de exposición de acrílico incluido.
