About this specimen

Xuebaoding, Sichuan, quartz with jamesonite at 6.7 cm and 117 g; a small cabinet piece, priced with the damage disclosed. Contains a lead mineral: wash hands after handling. A stout, clear quartz crystal with grey jamesonite needles caught inside, as the supplier notes, and golden mica at the base; the supplier notes a slightly damaged tip and a mining-contact base.

Rock crystal is judged on termination quality, clarity and how the crystals sit together, and the Chinese localities have raised the bar on all three.

Jamesonite is a lead-iron-antimony sulfide that forms hair-fine, steel-grey needles, often tangled inside quartz or scheelite from the Xuebaoding and Yaogangxian mines; wash hands after handling.

Xuebaoding in Pingwu County is the classic Chinese source of scheelite, aquamarine and cassiterite on muscovite, mined from high-altitude greisen veins.

The piece is small cabinet in size, 5.3 × 2.7 × 6.7 cm (2.09 × 1.06 × 2.64 in) and 117 g (4.1 oz). Disclosed condition: a slightly damaged tip and a mining-contact base. The price reflects it and the photographs show the affected area. The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.

Contains lead-bearing minerals: wash hands after handling and keep away from children and pets.

Specimens are photographed and catalogued one at a time before they reach this page.
