Xuebaoding, Sichuan, aquamarine with mica, feldspar and cassiterite at 13.8 cm and 263 g; a large cabinet plate. A tall plate of silvery mica and white feldspar with small pale aquamarine crystals and black cassiterite grains scattered across it.
Glassy hexagonal prisms and a sea-blue tone define the aquamarine variety.
Mica forms pearly hexagonal books that catch the light between the other crystals. Feldspar forms the blocky, pale crystals that act as a stage for the more colourful minerals in a pegmatite pocket.
Xuebaoding in Pingwu County is the classic Chinese source of scheelite, aquamarine and cassiterite on muscovite, mined from high-altitude greisen veins.
The piece is large cabinet in size, 8.3 × 3.3 × 13.8 cm (3.27 × 1.30 × 5.43 in) and 263 g (9.3 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
