Guangdong specular hematite with red hematoid quartz at 16.8 cm and 1124 g; a large cabinet plate. A broad plate of black botryoidal specular hematite with pale pink, red-skinned quartz crystals clustered across its top, the hematite metallic and the quartz frosted.
Specularite forms glittering steel-grey plates, the iron oxide that makes so much Guangdong quartz sparkle.
Hematoid quartz is coloured by hematite inclusions, giving it a warm red-to-orange body colour that intensifies in strong light.
Guangdong's Jinlong district is known for hematoid and chlorite-phantom quartz with specular hematite, alongside fluorite and calcite.
The piece is large cabinet in size, 16.8 × 12 × 6 cm (6.61 × 4.72 × 2.36 in) and 1124 g (39.6 oz). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
