Xuebaoding, Sichuan, fluorite with mica at 10.9 cm and 385 g; a cabinet plate. A plate of golden-brown mica blades with clear, glassy fluorite cubes set into the top, the largest at the upper right, the mica fanning in every direction.
Fluorite is the classic collector's halide: calcium fluoride that grows as cubes, octahedra and stepped combinations, often with colour zoning that shows best in daylight.
Mica forms pearly hexagonal books that catch the light between the other crystals.
Xuebaoding in Pingwu County is the classic Chinese source of scheelite, aquamarine and cassiterite on muscovite, mined from high-altitude greisen veins.
Dimensions place it in the cabinet range, 7.8 × 3 × 10.9 cm (3.07 × 1.18 × 4.29 in) and 385 g (13.6 oz). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
