A plate crowded with large, dark-red garnet crystals, several with sharp dodecahedral faces, over white feldspar and pale smoky quartz, with glassy hyalite opal crusts that glow green under UV. The garnets are bigger than usual for the locality.
Yunxiao, Fujian, large-crystal garnet with hyalite; the photos show the UV response. A 35 g miniature with a lot of red.
