Fujian double-terminated calcite with octahedral green fluorite at 40 g; a miniature with one big focal crystal.
Fluorite crystallises in the cubic system and is prized for its saturated colour, glassy lustre and the way zoned phantoms appear when the crystals are back-lit.
Calcium carbonate in its rhombohedral form, calcite is soft (Mohs 3) and takes a bright vitreous to pearly lustre on fresh faces.
Fujian's fluorite-quartz veins have supplied collectors for two decades; the province is the source of most of the green and purple Chinese fluorite on the market.
By size it is miniature, 4.5 × 4.1 × 3.5 cm (1.77 × 1.61 × 1.38 in) and 40 g (1.4 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
Carbonate: never clean with acid or vinegar.
