Inner Mongolia purple-core green fluorite with siderite at 5.5 cm and 94 g; a small cabinet piece with a two-tone core.
Fluorite crystallises in the cubic system and is prized for its saturated colour, glassy lustre and the way zoned phantoms appear when the crystals are back-lit.
Siderite is recognised by its warm brown tone and slightly curved rhombic faces.
The Huanggangliang skarn district of Inner Mongolia is one of the great mineral finds of the 21st century, known for fluorite, calcite, garnet and rare species.
By size it is small cabinet, 5.5 × 5.3 × 2.8 cm (2.17 × 2.09 × 1.10 in) and 94 g (3.3 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
Carbonate: never clean with acid or vinegar.
