Inner Mongolia old-stock hollow fluorite balls at 40 g; a small cabinet piece with a rare and playful form.
Chinese fluorite has become a staple of modern collections for its sharp crystal faces, strong colour and a lustre that reads well from across the room.
Rock crystal is judged on termination quality, clarity and how the crystals sit together, and the Chinese localities have raised the bar on all three.
The Huanggangliang skarn district of Inner Mongolia is one of the great mineral finds of the 21st century, known for fluorite, calcite, garnet and rare species.
The piece is small cabinet in size, 6.3 × 4.3 × 3.5 cm (2.48 × 1.69 × 1.38 in) and 40 g (1.4 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
