Xuebaoding, Sichuan, aquamarine with mica at 7.3 cm and 303 g; a small cabinet piece. A cluster of pale, translucent aquamarine crystals rising from a base of tan mica books, the crystals stacked in several directions.
Glassy hexagonal prisms and a sea-blue tone define the aquamarine variety.
Mica books, silvery to bronze, are the usual companion of pegmatite minerals and add a flash of pearly lustre to the piece.
The Xuebaoding veins of Pingwu County, Sichuan, produced the orange scheelite and muscovite-aquamarine combinations that put Chinese minerals on the map.
Dimensions place it in the small cabinet range, 7.3 × 5.8 × 6.2 cm (2.87 × 2.28 × 2.44 in) and 303 g (10.7 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
