Xuebaoding, Sichuan, aquamarine at 5.2 cm and 42 g; a small cabinet piece. A group of pale blue-green aquamarine crystals grown together, the faces glassy and the base grown free as the supplier notes.
Aquamarine is the blue-green variety of beryl, forming hexagonal prisms with flat terminations; the Chinese material from Xuebaoding and Yunnan pairs it with muscovite and cassiterite.
The Xuebaoding veins of Pingwu County, Sichuan, produced the orange scheelite and muscovite-aquamarine combinations that put Chinese minerals on the map.
By size it is small cabinet, 5.2 × 2.1 × 4.9 cm (2.05 × 0.83 × 1.93 in) and 42 g (1.5 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
