Xuebaoding, Sichuan, quartz with aquamarine, mica and feldspar at 8.5 cm and 260 g; a cabinet piece. A tower of golden-tan mica rosettes with a golden quartz crystal on top and pale aquamarine crystals at the base, the four minerals the supplier lists.
Good quartz is about hexagonal prisms with clean terminations and the glassy lustre that lets a cluster catch light from every angle.
Glassy hexagonal prisms and a sea-blue tone define the aquamarine variety. Mica books, silvery to bronze, are the usual companion of pegmatite minerals and add a flash of pearly lustre to the piece.
Xuebaoding in Pingwu County is the classic Chinese source of scheelite, aquamarine and cassiterite on muscovite, mined from high-altitude greisen veins.
By size it is cabinet, 7 × 5.2 × 8.5 cm (2.76 × 2.05 × 3.35 in) and 260 g (9.2 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
