Corti rami simili a coralli, di un blu da uovo di pettirosso, si levano qui da un tappeto bianco di sottili cristalli aghiformi steso sulla superficie superiore di una lastra bruna, tinta di ferro; ciascun ramo si ispessisce verso una punta smussata e leggermente più verde. A distanza di braccio il blu si legge come un'unica velatura di colore; da vicino si risolve in steli ramificati distinti.
L'emimorfite è un silicato idrato di zinco, Zn4Si2O7(OH)2·H2O, che si forma nel cappello ossidato sopra il minerale di zinco, dove l'acqua circolante rielabora la sfalerite. L'incolore e il bianco sono gli esiti ordinari; la sfumatura blu del materiale cinese come questo viene di norma attribuita a tracce di rame. Una durezza tra 4,5 e 5 la rende più robusta di quanto sembri, anche se gli aghi esili si spezzano con facilità e non andrebbero mai spazzolati.
Il pezzo misura 4,6 × 4,1 × 2,5 cm e pesa 45 g, mostrato su un blocchetto di acrilico trasparente e adagiato su un cuscinetto di mastice verde. Ciò che vede nelle fotografie è il pezzo che viene spedito.
