About this specimen
Guangdong hemimorphite at 2.7 cm; a miniature, supplied on the acrylic stand shown. Hemimorphite in pale mint-turquoise covers the piece in a botryoidal crust that curves inward around a dark hollow at the centre, the growth thickest along the rim.
Hemimorphite is a zinc silicate that forms fan-shaped sprays of bladed crystals or botryoidal blue crusts; both forms are represented in Chinese and Mexican material.
Guangdong's Jinlong district is known for hematoid and chlorite-phantom quartz with specular hematite, alongside fluorite and calcite.
Dimensions place it in the miniature range, 2.7 × 2.2 × 2.1 cm (1.06 × 0.87 × 0.83 in). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
