About this specimen
Yunnan hemimorphite at 2.8 cm; a miniature, supplied in the display box shown. Hemimorphite in turquoise blue mounds up across a tan matrix in rounded botryoidal growths, the layers stepping over one another so the crust reads in tiers.
Hemimorphite is a zinc silicate that forms fan-shaped sprays of bladed crystals or botryoidal blue crusts; both forms are represented in Chinese and Mexican material.
Yunnan's copper and lead-zinc districts produce the azurite, malachite, pyromorphite, hemimorphite and blue aragonite that define Chinese secondary minerals.
The piece is miniature in size, 2.8 × 2.2 × 1.3 cm (1.10 × 0.87 × 0.51 in). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
