Inner Mongolia etched galena at 31 g; a miniature with an unusual surface. Lead sulfide: wash hands after handling.
Galena is lead sulfide, forming heavy, mirror-bright cubes and octahedra; it is the classic companion of sphalerite and quartz in lead-zinc deposits.
Inner Mongolia's Huanggang and Chifeng districts produce fluorite, calcite, garnet and rhodochrosite in a lustre and clarity that set the modern standard for Chinese carbonates.
The piece is miniature in size, 3.5 × 2.5 × 2.4 cm (1.38 × 0.98 × 0.94 in) and 31 g (1.1 oz). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
Contains lead-bearing minerals: wash hands after handling and keep away from children and pets.
