About this specimen
Three large galena cubes, each with satin steel-grey faces and crisp edges, interlock into a compact block; a small chalcopyrite grain and thin oxidised patches add a touch of colour on the faces. The matte-to-satin finish is natural for this find and gives the cubes a solid, sculptural look.
Jiangxi's lead-zinc mines produce galena in heavy, clean cubes like these; the piece is dense in the hand and shows the cubic cleavage that makes the species instantly recognisable. Wash hands after handling, as with all lead minerals.
At 5.2 × 4.5 × 2.6 cm (2.05 × 1.77 × 1.02 in) and 136 g (4.8 oz) it is a small cabinet specimen that displays well on a shelf or in a cabinet. What you see in the photos is the piece you receive; any known repair, mount or treatment is disclosed above.
