About this specimen
Galena rarely shows off like this: hoppered, skeletal cubes whose faces grew as stepped frames rather than solid squares, wearing a soft blue-grey patina over the bright metal beneath. They stack across a knot of brassy chalcopyrite, and sprays of needle-sharp, water-clear quartz burst from the gaps like frost.
Skeletal growth happens when a crystal’s edges outrun its faces — a signature of fast crystallization — and collectors prize galena in this habit far above its common solid cubes. Blue metal, gold sulfide and clear quartz make a three-way contrast with real presence at miniature size.
